Visionary

Visionary, n. An Image-Bearer who is driven to think about or plan the future with great imagination, intuition, and intelligence. She’s creative, more focused on the bigger picture than the granular details, and gifted at motivating others to jump in and help bring a vision to life.

Strengths

Personality pitfalls

1. Lit up by big ideas—bogged down by daily execution. The thrill can fade when logistics hit.
2. Shiny-object syndrome. Once a plan reaches the detailed-execution stage, the pull to pivot can be strong.
3. Misordered pursuit. Your calling is for the people God has given you, not beyond them.

Other personalities to consider

Your mind is forever alive with the possibilities. Every day, you notice untapped potential, sense unfolding themes that point toward something bigger, and constantly imagine how the things around you could be more whole and beautiful. The scope of your vision is thrilling.

But alongside the thrill is a constant tension: the sense that pursuing your long-term goals with your best effort often comes at the expense of the daily responsibilities you know God has entrusted to you. And yet, because you know those responsibilities are good and sacred, you often feel as though you’re dutifully putting aspects of your core calling on a shelf, to be revisited “when life slows down again” (which you also know will never happen on its own).

The weight of managing this constant conflict can be discouraging.

But being a Visionary is not something to quiet or suppress because of your season—it’s how you’re uniquely designed to bear the image of the Creator who spoke a world bursting with potential into being. This is not something you’re being asked by Him to tame!
